Riyadh records lower temperatures in 2020
The city of Riyadh recorded lower temperatures this year which came as a relief to its residents. Based on the readings recorded by air quality monitoring till the month of october, the average temperature fell down by three degrees celsius. As compared to 2019, this was a significant decrease in the temperature, except for the month of February which recorded an increase of one degrees celsius since 2019.
Wadi Hanifa emerged as the area that recorded the lowest temperatures in 2020. This could be due to its distance from the urban areas and a wide spread of area under vegetation which accords it a more pleasant weather. The lowest temperature recorded at Wadi Hanifa air quality monitoring station was 12 degrees celsius, which is five degrees lower than Al-Work district which recorded the largest number when it came to lowest temperature: 17 degrees celsius. With respect to the highest temperature, Wadi Hanifa again had relatively better results with 38 degrees Celsius as compared to the Al-Amal neighbourhood which recorded the highest temperature in 2020 with 39 degrees celsius.
As Riyadh enters the Al-Wasam season, the temperature difference between night and day has widened even further. The season started in mid-october and is expected to last for about 52 days. Since the beginning of Al-Wasam, it has been noticed that day time temperatures can go up to 39 degrees. At night, it drops to less than 20 degrees celsius.
